As part of our“Why We Love Our Horses” campaign, we’re sharing stories from fellow equestrians about their love for horses. Today we’re spotlighting our very own Heidi Zorn, president of Premier Equestrian. Below, read more about her three horses, how she first got into riding, and the rider who inspires her the most!
Tell us about your horses:
I have 3 horses: Primo (Breed: Westphalian), Ysabella (Lusitano), and Keezhee (Quarter Horse). Dressage is our preferred discipline.
Do you ride competitively or for pleasure?
I strive to excel my horsemanship and riding quality, but they are more for my pleasure.
Why are you devoted to having and caring for your horses?
Ever since I was a little girl, I knew horse had to be a part of my life. I think it’s just in our DNA: that we must have horses.
What do you love most about riding or competing?
The connection I get with my horses. I can just think about my vision and they seem to carry it out. Riding is steeped in much discipline, honor, and physical fitness. It’s just plain good for you.
How did you get into riding and how old were you?
The first time I rode a horse, I must have been around 4 years old. I’ve been hooked ever since.
What’s your earliest or best memory of horses?
When I was 4 or 5 I watched a movie called “Snowfire.” My brother told me that the horse in the movie, Snowfire, was in the canyon several miles from our house. I took off for the day looking for the horse. I must have been gone several hours and when I returned home the police and the whole neighborhood were there looking for me. I was so disappointed that I didn’t find the horse. However, my parents were relieved that I was home.
What horse and/or person inspired you the most?
Walter Zettl, Classical Dressage Master. He inspired me so much that we produced a 5-part video serieswith him.
