Fire Safety Solutions for Equestrians

horse face underneath a firehorse blindfold

Specially designed for our Rescue Kits and found nowhere else, these horse blindfolds wear like a fly mask and restrict the horseโ€™s vision up to 80%. During fire panic, horses have been known to refuse to leave their stalls or to return to a burning structure seeking safety. These blindfolds are intended to allow equestrians or first responders to remove animals safely and hopefully reduce injury and panic by removing visual stimulation.

They are also useful for trailering, for horses sensitive to needles, and to reduce panic when waking up from anesthesia. Velcro closure.

The FireHorse Rescue Kit includes 5 blindfolds. We recommend ordering additional blindfolds to match the number of stalls or horses, or purchasing a second kit in the event of larger barns.

Directions & Terms of Use

FireHorse Rescue Kit and FireHorse Equine BlindFold

โ€ข Cases should be stored in highly visible, easily accessed locations, such as on the wall of a breezeway, barn entrance, etc., and ideally not in direct sunlight
โ€ข When you receive your kit, ensure that all the items are present and functional before deploying in the barn. The flashlight will require batteries upon arrival, as storage can deplete the battery life
โ€ข Each kit contains 5 blindfolds. We sell blindfolds separately, so that a barn may supplement the 5 in the kit to match the number of stalls/horses. Ensuring you have enough blindfolds for all the equines will maximize evacuation safety and efficiency.
โ€ข We recommend familiarizing yourself with all the contents of each kit, including testing out and acclimating your horse to the blindfolds. Ensure the horse is secured (tied) or otherwise unable to injure itself before testing, and remember that reduced vision could lead to a horse accidentally swinging its head/stepping on or otherwise impeding on your space. The blind folds should only be used in an emergency situation or in the presence of experienced equestrians, veterinarians, grooms, or other professionals who understand horse psychology and how a horse will react to reduced visual acuity.
โ€ข All items in the kit should be in perfect working order upon arrival. If there is any issue, we will replace the defective item. Contact support@premierequestrian.com to set this up. Check all items at least once every six months to ensure they are still in good working order.
โ€ข Kits are designed to increase preparedness and save lives in the event of an emergency. However, all barns should follow fire department and building codes to reduce fire risk, including having a functioning fire extinguisher and in the event of an emergency all barns are recommended to call 911 immediately. Our tools are designed for quick response to fill the gap between the first sparks of a fire and the fire department arriving to extinguish and evaluate the structure or property for additional risks.
โ€ข By purchasing a Kit, you agree to all the terms and conditions, as well as best practices in terms of kit use.

Simplifying Barn Fire Safety

hay bale fire

Barn fires are an equestrianโ€™s worst nightmare. Barns have high fire risk with dust, shavings, hay, running fans, and open breezeways. Be prepared to prevent or deal with fire risk!

The FireHorse Rescue Kit was created by equestrians and career firefighters who are aiming to reduce fire related loss in one of our favorite places to be: the barn.

Barns have some of the highest risks for fires: wood structures, high levels of dust, 100s or 1000s of pounds of shavings, hay, feed, and other flammable materials like leather, saddle pads, blankets, etc., sometimes year-round, outdoor use of fans and other electrical items, and open, highly ventilated breezeways. This means there are tons of fuel and ample oxygen just waiting for a spark.

As professional equestrians for more than 30 years, we realized that should a fire start or threaten our barn, we wouldnโ€™t even know where to find a fire extinguisher. Obviously calling 911 is required, but in the minutes or longer until first responders arrive, we wanted an easy-to-use, easy-to-find set of tools that would allow anyone to prevent a fire, put out a fire in its early stages, and remove horses, people, or other animals as safely as possible.

And so FireHorse Rescue Kits were born, and we hope the specially selected and unique items ensure that your horses and barn have next level safety and you have peace of mind about your horses and property.
