Daily, weekly, and monthly grooming is mandatory to maintain a great arena surface. Premier Equestrian groomers enable you to maintain a consistent riding surface, avoid footing irregularities, and condition your sand and footing additives. A professional-type arena leveler, arena harrow, or arena rake can overturn and redistribute the varying sand particle sizes and keep additives mixed thoroughly. What kind of groomer should I get for my arena?
Your perfect groomer will depend on the size and terrain of your arena. Most arena surfaces contain clean-washed sand with no additives, sand arenas without clay or silt content, or sand with geotextile or fiber additives. Premier Equestrian grooming products include adjustable features that can handle all of these surfaces.
Regarding size, we recommend the SportPro M1 for small arenas and round pens, the SportPro M3 for medium-sized farms and boarding facilities, and the SportPro M5 for fully-sized professional facilities.
How do I know what size of groomer I should get?
This will depend on the machine you plan to pull it with. Utility vehicles, ATVs, or subcompact tractors pull most arena groomers. But you wonโt want to pair a small arena groomer with a large tractor or a large arena groomer with a utility cart. The groomer should be wide enough to cover the tracks from your tow vehicle.
Our SportPro M1 arena groomer is best for small arenas and round pens, and can be pulled behind most ATVs or UTV. The SportPro M3 is ideal for medium-sized arenas, private and boarding facilities, and can be pulled behind a large UTV or subcompact tractor. The SportPro M5 is best for large arenas, and should be towed behind a compact or subcompact tractor.
How often should I groom my arena?
Grooming your arena daily is best to keep all the particles mixed and prevents fine sand from building up on the base. If the arena experiences only a few rides per day, it should be well enough to groom every other day. If your arena includes textile additives, daily grooming will keep the additives and sand properly mixed. Watering your arena will keep the materials bound together and provide more purchase to the footing. You should deep groom your arena every couple of weeks, especially if youโve had wet weather.
Why is it important to groom my arena properly?
Properly grooming your arena regularly ensures a better riding experience for your horses. A groomed surface helps to instill confidence in their footing. Horses should be trained in a consistent environment to help them perform at the peak of their abilities. In the worst cases, uneven surfaces can cause discomfort, insecurity and injury, setting training back weeks or months. Proper maintenance regularly will dramatically reduce this possibility.
