Wellington, FL (March 12, 2018) – “I’m just very excited about getting this award for horsemanship and a good attitude!” exclaimed Monica Burssens, the most recent recipient of the Premier Equestrian Award at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida. “I think that it’s very, very important around the horse show because we don’t always have good rides, sometimes we have very bad rides, to keep a positive attitude for our clients, our horses, and everybody around us.”
World class arena company, Premier Equestrian was thrilled to present Burssens with their Premier Equestrian Award during week eight of competition. An official sponsor of the 2018 show circuit that draws elite competitors from all over the world year after year, Premier honored Burssens for exhibiting outstanding sportsmanship and remarkable horsemanship while campaigning three of her mounts at the FEI level. Monica Burssens’ positive approach to horse sport is undoubltedly a result of the example her parents set. Her father, Patrick Burssens and her mother, Marisol Burssens were the driving force behind the original IDA Farm and are beloved for their contribution to the equestrian community. The Burssens were best known for making everyone feel welcome and were always willing to lend their knowledge. Happily, that culture has been preserved by the new owners and operators of IDA Farms,The Knopp family, as well.
Originally from Mexico City, Mexico, Burssens has lived in the Wellington area for over 20 years and works in the family business. She is a mainstay of Paramount Horses and is in charge of riding sales prospects and training client horses along with fellow trainer Raul Corchuelo and her father, Patrick Burssens.

Short listed for the 2011 Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Monica Burssens recently spent a couple of summers in Europe training with Klaus Balkenhal. She has also learned from some of the best teachers in the world, including Johann Hinneman, Conrad Schumacher, Steffen Peters, and Ebgert Kraak of the famous Craecken Stables, The Netherlands.
Grateful to be recognized for her professional demeanor both in and out of the show ring, Burssens added, “This award means a lot to me just because it’s a horsemanship award, and also because it is from Premier Equestrian, so it’s a wonderful recommendation.”
Along with winning the Premier Equestrian Award Burssens showed in the small tour over the weekend. “I showed the wonderful mare Enidin in the FEI Prix St. Georges, so I am really excited about that,” explained Burssens. Along with earning the first place finish with a top score of 68.824% aboard the nine-year-old Dutch mare (Zanzibar x Zanidin 431), Burssens campaigned two other horses, Sao Passionato and Elfentanz, at Prix St. Georges and Intermediate I during the same week.
