3-Point Swivel Hitch
The SportPro M5 arena drag comes with a patent pending swivel hitch that precisely follows the turns of the tractor around jumps and rails and straightens itself before locking when lifted.
This self-locking swivel hitch enhances safety and reduces hassle when pulling in and out of the arenas.
Pin Hitch or 2” Ball Coupler (M1 & M3 models)
A pin comes with the SportPro M1 and M3, or purchase the 2″ Ball Coupler.
Transport Wheels (M1 & M3 models)
Transport the M1 and M3 arena drags over almost any terrain around the property.
Ground-engaging components are designed to break up, dig, mix, fluff, smooth, and compact horse arena footing. Each component is independently adjustable. Change the surface tension in your arena as desired.
Once you have a configuration for everyday use, lock the tool to count on consistent, repeatable results, no matter who’s in the driver’s seat. Adjust the components as needed when you need to re-mix the additives in your footing or change the surface tension for conditioning your horses.
S-Tines
Adjust the depth of S-Tines to dig, lift, mix, fluff, and level the arena surface. S-Tines offer a safer way to go deeper, pulling up small fines and fibers that have settled to the bottom without damaging the base. S-tines are also suited for self-amending or self-installing additional materials, or fibers.
Scarifiers (M3 & M5 models)
In contrast to the S-tines, scarifiers are rigid by design, giving them an enhanced ability to loosen hard, compacted materials. Arenas with high clay, a tendency to compact, or more water will benefit from the hardened-steel scarifier configuration as the primary component. Also great for waterless footing.
Swap the S-Tines and Scarifiers
The SportPro M3 & M5 arena drags allow a tool-less swap out of the available S-tines and scarifiers for arenas and facilities that would benefit from the capabilities of both. One set of S-Tines or scarifiers come standard on the drag. You may choose to buy the other any time.
Coil Tines (M3 & M5 models)
The SportPro M5 has two offset rows of coil tines, and each tine has two contact points instead of one. In their passive position, this setup maximizes the coil tines ability to fill in grooves and press down large fibers that have risen to the top. In the active position, the coil tines aerate, mix, and level the arena surface.
Smoothing Bar
The smoothing bar’s cylinder shape allows material to flow under as well as over— creating a smoothing effect and preventing excess material from plugging up. Adjustable in quarter inch increments, the smoothing bar also accumulates some excess materials to drop into low areas to level the arena.
Rollers
Rollers provide stability, compaction, and prevent tines from digging too deep into the surface. The twisted rod design maximizes packing, prevents trailing, and minimizes bounce.
Choose a single or double roller configuration. On the dual roller models, the front and back rollers add an additional level of gauge security and consistency, so you can drop and groom without worrying about catching on your base or mats.
Wall/Rail Blade
The rail/wall blade can be added to pull material inward along the rail.
Wall Protection Wheel
A rail wheel is available for extra kick wall protection.

How often should an arena be dragged?
Maintaining an arena works best when you have a daily, weekly, and yearly routine.
Daily Horse Arena Maintenance
Remove organic material, like leaves and manure, from the arena. Use your arena drag to level out the surface of the arena floor.
Weekly Horse Arena Maintenance
Along with daily maintenance, you should perform a more thorough drag of your horse arena once per week. Move jumps or obstacles. Loosen up the footing in highly compacted areas. Move footing back to areas that migrate like the rail, take-off, and landing zones. After everything is loose, mix and level it out with your arena drag equipment.
Yearly Horse Arena Maintenance
While continuing the daily and weekly horse arena maintenance schedules, at least once per year, address the overall condition of your arena’s footing. Drag your arena down to the base (without touching it!) and remix the footing and sand. If your arena needs any extra footing material, add it now. If your sand is breaking down to fine particles, you will need to incorporate some new sand. What is the best pattern to drag an arena?
You can use several drag patterns when grooming your horse arena. The most important thing is to keep the number of passes the same across the entire surface. Often, circular patterns that slowly spiral across the arena work well. See the grooming patterns image above.
Avoid dragging one area more than others. Uneven grooming can result in a surface that looks level but has varying densities. Such conditions can create hazards for riders. Drag your arena consistently in one of the suggested patterns to keep the footing uniform.
What will happen if you don’t properly maintain arenas with arena drags?
Failing to maintain your arena properly can result in dangerous conditions that can put horses and riders at risk of injury. It will also make training more difficult and reduce the morale of riders and trainers. Without grooming, inconsistencies in the depth and firmness of the surface will be different from one spot to another. This makes the horse very susceptible to injury.
The mixture of sand particles and footing product in a horse arena contain components of different sizes. Without proper maintenance, the footing components separate over time. Eventually, they separate entirely and undermine the qualities the footing mix provides.
Without regularly removing the organic matter from your arena floor, it will begin to decay and compost. Under-maintained areas can turn into dust bowls or mud pits, depending on your climate. Either of those environments could breed and spread bacteria and disease.
If you do not adequately maintain your horse arena regularly with the proper drag equipment, your arena floor will become a rutted and cratered and/or deep mess that won’t provide the stability or the proper surface tension for training and performance.
Does horse arena drag equipment work on all surfaces?
No. The arena drag equipment you get should match the surface type of your arena footing. Some drag equipment and groomers are designed for textile footing surfaces, and others are designed for sand-only arenas.

- If your arena floor has high spots, crests, divots, or potholes, you probably need to drag it.
- If your arena floor has variations in color, you may have uneven moisture or density. Those color variations can be another indicator that your arena floor is due for a drag.
