TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND AND HISTORY FOR THOSE WHO MAY NOT BE FAMILIAR?

I trained as a skincare therapist in my early 20s and became fascinated by treating problem skin (because I had terrible skin at the time). I was lucky enough to become the Education Director of a professional skincare company for 12 years. At the same time, I was horse crazy and rode every day for most of my life. Before I moved to the USA in 1993, I lived a very outdoor life in Australia until my mid-30s, and I still do. This made me acutely aware of the need to protect my skin from all of the elements—not just the sun. Even more importantly, I learned what NOT to do because this can damage your skin even more than the environment. There are a lot of fads and fallacies when it comes to skincare so it’s important to know what’s right and healthy for your skin—and what you should never do.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO LAUNCH LINDA NATURAL SKINCARE?

I had terrible skin as a teenager and into my mid 20s. Out of desperation, I tried everything and had become really disillusioned with the “clear skin” promises made by all the products I bought that never worked. And some of the products really irritated my skin. As a young woman I was looking to take a makeup artist course, but it was four years long and I really wanted to get out into the world because I’d been in school and university and was ready to go do something instead of keep studying. A few of the makeup schools offered beautician courses—I almost signed up for one, when a friend of my family warned me of their bad reputation and sent me in another direction. That’s when I landed at the Ella Baché College and School of Professional Skincare. Thank goodness! I didn’t just learn about products and massage techniques, I learned about how skin functions, what it needs, and how to treat it with love and respect.

WHAT MAKES LINDA NATURAL SKINCARE UNIQUE OR SPECIAL FROM OTHER SKINCARE COMPANIES?

The oils! Many people are really afraid of oils because they might make skin greasy or break out. But when you use the right oils the effects are amazing. The last thing you want is a product that fully absorbs into the skin. Skin needs a protective layer of fat, so the blend of oils I developed do a combination of both: some penetrate to heal and soothe, while other more velvety oils gently coat the surface to prevent moisture loss and prevent the drying and dehydrating effects of the sun, dust, heat, wind, or cold. And yet, they are not greasy!

Our products are completely natural and vegan, and there is no testing on animals (mostly on me and my friends!). The skincare line is ideal for people who don’t want to spend a lot of time on their skin because they are busy, like me, so they depend on something that really works. And you see the difference in  your skin almost immediately, unlike some products that take a few weeks to see a difference, if any.

COULD YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT THE ORGANIC OILS USED IN THE PRODUCTS AND WHY THEY ARE SO BENEFICIAL TO OUR SKIN?

I use thick oils like raw hemp seed, meadow foam, and borage oil, which are all healing and calming. They effectively protect the skin’s surface but they are not greasy. I combine them with some really special, powerful, and unusual essential oils that have healing, soothing, and energizing effects like kaffir lime, cardamom, and amber. And for cleansing, I use a special form of coconut oil that is water-soluble and add pink grapefruit and litsea cubeba for purifying and refreshing the skin. It takes off all of your makeup, even waterproof mascara, yet leaves your skin calm, clean, and silky—never squeaky!

COULD YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT HOW YOUR SKINCARE PRODUCTS TARGET THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF AN EQUESTRIAN WOMAN?

As horse women, we tend to neglect our skin. I think partly because we have so little time between caring for our horses, family, and career, and partly because riding is not really considered a feminine sport! Yet most riders in the modern world are women. Having a background in the skincare industry, I know the importance of good skin. I was not lucky enough to be born with good skin, so I had to create it! And that stayed with me—I can’t neglect my skin or it falls apart. I became very snobby about products because so many don’t really work. You discover this when you have difficult skin because some people can get away with anything—for a little while, anyway. And even though I really care about my skin, I don’t want to use a lot of products or spend a lot of time on it. That’s how I developed my range: just three essentials plus two super boosters if you want more. It’s literally two (or three) steps in the morning and at night. Simple! And it works. I don’t want to just believe it makes a difference—I want to feel it. Immediately.

BEYOND SKINCARE, IN WHAT OTHER WAYS DO YOU PRACTICE SELF-CARE AND PRIORITIZE WELLNESS IN YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE?

I am a bit of a health freak. As a teenager, I had a lot of food allergies and skin, energy, and health issues, so that set me on the path to figuring out how to feel and stay well. I don’t eat meat, fish, or dairy, and my diet is largely based on starches (great for gut health!), fresh vegetables, fruit, and fermented foods. Of course, exercise happens naturally while riding my horses, thankfully, because I don’t like to work out! I also believe in cultivating a positive attitude and strive to have a happy horse and a happy life, no matter what happens.
