Sandy, Utah (March 7, 2018) – Footing is everything to a successful dressage test and the soundness of its cherished equine athletes. That’s why Premier Equestrian, an Official Sponsor of US Equestrian and the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) has added arena consultant and equine biomechanics expert Keri Homer of San Diego, California, to its team of trusted arena footing representatives.
Premier Equestrian, of Sandy, Utah, is an esteemed provider of high-quality dressage arenas, arena footing and arena maintenance equipment. Just a sample of its clients include Olympians Laura Graves and Steffen Peters, the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games, Adequan Global Dressage Festival, and Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage Finals.
“I am excited to be a part of the Premier Team. I love helping others learn more about helping horses live healthy, long lives,” said Homer, a professional equestrian for three decades, including managing operations at the Arroyo Del Mar, Inc. facility of two-time US Olympic Dressage team Bronze medalist Steffen and Shannon Peters.
“One way that I can help is through sharing knowledge about the biomechanics of the horse and how it relates to how we train them,” added the owner of a 14 year-old Off-Track Thoroughbred (OTTB) hunter, Argent et Noir (aka ‘Sharky’). “Including how our horses deserve to exercise on the safest possible surface. My passion is helping others reach those goals. You don’t need to own an expensive horse, you just need to take care of the one you have.”
This new Premier Equestrian representative has lived her own advice, growing up on the West Coast where she began riding at age seven. “My parents bought me the sweetest little Paint horse and I rode without a clue. He was my guardian angel for sure, and he started and solidified my life-long addiction and passion for horses.”
She began starting young horses from the ground up for racing and the show ring, and successfully retrained and rehabilitated OTTBs for new careers as hunter/jumper and equitation horses, including developing and managing southern California’s CANTER program to rescue and rehome ex-racehorses. Homer held trainer’s licenses in CA, ID, NH, OR, WA and WV.
“I’ve raised Thoroughbreds for racing and transitioned them into sport horses, and spent years rehabilitating horses injured while on the track or showing. I’ve been grateful to have many good horses, and the opportunity to give them a second chance is a core value of mine. The knowledge I have gained over the years will allow me to educate customers on the importance of a quality-riding surface. My position at Premier encompasses many years of helping horses stay sound and prevent injury.
Homer and her hunter partner are ready to exemplify how good care, good footing and good horsemanship lead to sound performances in any arena.
